ZAGORA & THE GREAT SOUTH DESERT
“I have always loved the desert. We sit on a sand dune. We don't see anything. We don't hear anything.
And yet something shines silently. »
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

MEETING IN SAHARIAN LANDS
An immersion in the Moroccan Sahara, like a mirage the immensity of the sand dunes captivates us and draws the horizon like a painting.
A dazzling contrast between the golden yellow of the sand and the deep blue of the pure desert sky.
Ergs extend and resemble a protected sea between volcanic peaks, impressive hamadas (rocky plains) and dry lakes.
THE FLORA OF ZAGORA AND THE MOROCCAN SAHARA
A burning and cold universe which nevertheless shelters a wide variety of vegetation such as oleander, tamarisk, tufts of esparto cover the large desert expanses. We also find euphorbia, a plant known to be toxic and yet its honey which is extracted from it in other regions of Morocco offers real therapeutic virtues.
The desert is also home to the acacia which dromedaries love, the Sodom apple tree and the colocynth, a small desert melon.
Finally, the most astonishing of all the rose of Jericho which is eternal.
THE WILDLIFE OF ZAGORA AND THE MOROCCAN SAHARA
A multitude of insects and small rodents appear in the nocturnal niches, but the wildest remain the fennec fox and the Dorcas gazelle .
Few people have the chance to see them as was the case for the Trek Des Gazelles By Mélanie team during a scouting trip.
Among the intriguing reptiles, the skink is a harmless lizard nicknamed the sand fish.
Finally, the solifuge remains the most impressive of all arachnids. At nightfall, this incomparably fast spider ventures out to defeat the scorpions.
